The voting was so close guys!

But in the end you guys chose fairytails, followed by a mashup of some sort. So fairytales it is.

To be honest, I didn’t think it would go that way. I never thought i would be a 24 year old man writing a fairytale song.

So I’m going to need your help. What I need from you guys is some kind of story idea.

We could do a ‘Where are they now’ story. Example: ‘What ever happened to Hansel and Gretel?

We could do a ‘Role Reversal’ story. Example: ‘It turns out the witch was the good guy, kids coming up and destroying her house! whats up with that?!

We could do a ‘New Story’. Come up with something totally fresh!

We could do a ‘Crossover’ story. Example: ‘Hansel meets Red Riding Hood in the Forrest

So, below please write up some ideas for the song. Tell me the direction you want it to go.

If you want to email me for some reason please send it to

I like that cross over one with the example. Just stick with that I think.

‘where are they now’ sounts fun to me. But maybe not Hans en Grietje

I would make up a new story. And especially seeing you’re a 24 year old man (btw, do you really think that’s old) you could put a deeper layer in the song. For instance a dragon on his search to find the only female dragon that is out there for him cause he feels alone in the world. Where the obvious underlayer would just be a regular lovestory. Whatever you come up with thoug, I know it will be awesome.

    Hi Adam,

    Pretty cool, a new song!

My suggestion: Why don’t you try an aboriginal tale?

There are a lot of aboriginal-story’s that can be told in all times.
Which comes in very handy on the theme ‘fairytale’.
And perhaps it would be nice to use a didgeridoo sound as well. 🙂

    Greetz, Marjon.

    I like the crossover,
but maybe you can put crossover and ‘where are they now’ together??

I love all the ideas above! However, doing the where are they now bit sounds very much like Sara Bareilles’ “Fairytale”. If you haven’t listened to that song, please do! I’m a huge fan of original material. Adam, you’re so good at writing songs about unrequited love etc that this will be a great challenge for you. Why not write about a Fairytale romance. We always hear about ladies that want to meet their prince charming but, what about the guys? Do they want to meet a princess? Maybe one could be obsessed with a Fairytale princess. I’m thinking you need to add a magical element too. I blame Disney lol! Good luck!!

hey Mel, I just had a listen. very cool song.I like your ideas too, youve given me alot to work with and think about thanks! 😀

    Hi Adam,

What a good idea from Mel.

Adam looking for miss little princess?
Is she hiding? Can she be discovered? Or was love close by and did he only had to open his eyes to see it?

Souds fantastic. A modern fairytale song by Adam Hoek.

(Disney okay, but please leave the American moral behind……ieks!)

    Later, Marjon.

    Hi Adam,

Did you count my reply as a vote?

    Otherwise…

    Like I said,

    I support Mel’s idea.

A new story, about a search for a princess (not on a white horse but….?).

    Groeten Marjon.

I don’t see why the song should be about an existing story. Why not think up a new one? Or sing about a world where all the fairytales live together?

I like the where are they now option because its like putting a new twist on an old story so when people listen to it there is already a sense of familiarity. But also like somebody already said a cross over + where are they now is fun, although that does kind of remind me of the fairytales in shrek a little bit!

Hey Adam – I agree with Jasmine – sounds like Shrek a little bit with a crossover/where are they now, and that theme has probably been done to death now with all the Shrek movies and their spin-offs. Having said that, you might have a target audience there, and it could be fun, but to make a long story short, I have two words for you: New Story.
    This sounds like fun again!
